In 2007 329,000 patients underwent breast augmentation surgery. There are a wide variety of different approaches, pocket placement locations, and implant choices.
One of the most exciting developments in breast augmentation surgery is the transumbilical approach. This technique was invented in 1991. Since that time instrumentation and endoscopic techniques have evolved making this method Dr. Sarbak’s approach of choice in many situations. Click here to see before and after pictures.
Transumbilical breast augmentation or TUBA involves only a single incision within the belly button and no incisions on the breasts themselves. This incision, which usually measures less than 1 inch in length, offers access for specialized surgical instruments, an endoscopic camera, and eventually the implants.
Recent statistics demonstrate the excellent results that can be achieved with this minimal scar technique. These studies are suggesting quicker recovery times and a lower rate of infection.
One of the very latest developments in the field of breast surgery takes the transumbilical approach one step further. In certain cases a mild to moderate breast lift can be accomplished with the assistance of internal techniques while avoiding external scars.
