More and more patients are using BOTOX® today to address facial wrinkles. Think of it this way: muscles are attached to the skin on top of them. Every time that the muscles contract the skin must bend to allow movement. If it keeps bending in the same place a wrinkle will form over time. BOTOX® works by paralyzing the muscles that create the wrinkle. With precise application certain changes in muscle balance and appearance can be achieved. There are situations where the wrinkle is so deep that it is still present even though the muscle is paralyzed. In these situations the addition of a filler (Restylane® or Juvederm®) is usually required. BOTOX® can actually increase the duration of a filler (Restyalne® or Juvederm®) by preventing underlying muscle movement.
